Welcome, kindred spirit.
I’m Kylie Fennell, an Australian and Aboriginal (Gumbaynggirr) storyteller weaving spellbinding romantic fantasies infused with big love and infinite magic. My books shimmer with danger and wonder, secrets and fate, passion and power – inviting you into lush, high-stakes worlds where nothing is ever as it seems.
Whether set in enchanted Victorian ballrooms or magical twists on the modern world, my stories are fast-paced, emotionally rich and brimming with women who defy expectations, men who meet their match and love fierce enough to change everything.
💫 Why I write:
I’ve been under the spell of stories for as long as I can remember. I devoured Grimms’ fairy tales, Arthurian legends and superhero comics as a kid, started my own “library” at ten (yes, complete with catalogue and borrowing system), and never stopped chasing that spark of magic. If I hadn’t become a writer, I’d be a superhero librarian – conquering the Dewey Decimal System by day and saving the world one book at a time by night. (Or, failing that, running a doughnut shop. Mmm…doughnuts.)

💫 What inspires me:
I’m endlessly fascinated by history, myth, identity and culture – threads that wind their way through my books. My years living in Japan and Europe deepened my love of place and legacy, and as an Aboriginal Australian, I write with a deep respect for story as something that connects us to past, present and possibility.
💫 Beyond the page:
When I’m not plotting impossible romances or tangling my characters in mysteries, you’ll find me weaving with traditional Aboriginal techniques, experimenting with native ingredients in my kitchen, or curled up rewatching The Princess Bride, Labyrinth, Star Wars or Friends. I live in Brisbane/Meanjin (Yuggera and Turrbal Country) with my husband, son and too many pets.
